MBDA in Poland: Czosnów support centre and WITU cooperation on CMI
Two announcements during MSPO week concern different industrial stages: support for existing programmes and development of a future counter-drone solution.

On 7 September, MBDA opened its first industrial facility in Poland at Czosnów. The company describes a service and technology centre supporting maintenance, assistance and training for PILICA+.
Two days later, it announced MSPO cooperation with Poland’s Military Institute of Armament Technology, WITU, on Counter Mass Interceptor. The project remains in development, with an initial firing campaign planned for 2027.
Together, the announcements show two routes to developing domestic capabilities. The centre supports equipment being delivered and used; CMI concerns a future product. They should not be described as a single production line.
Support is an industrial capability
MBDA’s announcement describes faster, more direct PILICA+ support. It does not announce serial manufacture of every CAMM-family missile at Czosnów. That should not be inferred from the industrial-facility label.
Local servicing competence matters to ownership costs after delivery. Availability requires documentation, people, spares and agreed responsibilities. This is our analysis of the centre’s significance, rather than an MBDA-published catalogue of repairs performed there. The extent of authorised work remains a distinct question from the building’s opening.
The UK-Poland programme context
The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed the opening and connected it to NATO’s eastern-flank security. It also cited NAREW, involving more than a thousand missiles and over a hundred launchers. Those numbers describe the programme, not the Czosnów centre’s capacity.
Separating scope matters: ordered quantities describe delivery scale, while the support centre develops sustainment capacity. The public material does not quantify repair-time reductions, so we do not attribute a numerical availability improvement to the investment. A future performance measure would need a defined baseline and period.
CMI: completed work and planned work
According to MBDA, seeker trials took place in Poland during September. Integration with a WITU prototype is the next step, ahead of a 2027 firing campaign. A component trial does not mean that development of the complete system has finished.
The industrial significance lies in work shared between the institute and company and progression from a component to a prototype. The announcement does not establish a unit price or serial order. Low cost remains a product objective without a published figure for comparison in this source.
Implications for suppliers
Service, training and technology businesses need to identify different chains of responsibility. Supporting an existing programme and joining development work require different evidence of capability. One general company presentation will not define both work packages or their acceptance conditions.
In our assessment, the next useful information concerns the centre’s service scope, confirmed CMI milestones and any subsequent delivery agreements. Those would provide a more concrete market basis than combining the value of every programme in which MBDA participates. The present announcements establish an opened facility and a development relationship, each with its own next steps.
